Mercy: Allah’s Greatest Gift to Humanity

Allah (swt) has bestowed many gifts to us mankind and we should thank and worship Him for His numerous blessings such as life, health, the power of reasoning, material possessions, etc. However, if there is o¬ne common denominator among all these blessings it is this: They are all ephemeral. In this exposé, we are going to explore God’s blessings, his unsurpassed generosity, and pinpoint how His Mercy surpasses all.
When o¬ne reflects o¬n his life, his surroundings, his future, the space that he occupies, the other species that either complement his life or help maintain it, o¬ne easily comes face to face with the reality of God, the Omnipotent, the Originator of all things, great and small, visible or invisible, here o¬n Earth or there in the Universe, yes the Creator of all. To deny this fact is to deny o¬ne’s very existence. Even the things, the lowest of creation, (1) tell the story of the glory of God. (Psalm 19:1-2)We, human beings, have no excuse ignoring the fact of God’s creation and of His benevolence toward us.
As o¬ne continues in this cogitation, o¬ne may ask himself: where was I before I was born? Why was I put here o¬n planet Earth? What is the purpose of death? What lies ahead of the threshold of death? These questions are very critical in o¬ne’s life, and they should be answered while balancing the sayings of religious texts, contemplating nature, evaluating the principles of reason, and listening deeply to o¬ne’s internal instructor, that inner voice that is always with you throughout your life. This act of deciphering, analyzing, evaluating, choosing, rejecting, and reevaluating constitutes the spice of life or life’s raison d’être. Without it, o¬ne is dead though he may think he is living. To live is to question the very core of o¬ne’s act of living. Thus o¬ne will remark that a lot of good stuffs have been placed here for us to make our life possible, easier, and even pleasurable. Some of these blessings were put into place even before we were born such as the ground that we will be using to walk, the air to breathe, the trees to feed us their oxygen, the plants to give us food, etc. Others were placed along the way such as schools, religious texts, a good friend or soul mate, and new technologies to beautify our life. Still others have been always there for us and we must use our intellect to pinpoint them such as God’s generosity, His never-ending protection, His love for us that goes beyond what we can express into words, and above all His mercy.
Mercy is God’s condescendence toward you and me. Because of our natural propensity to sin and to perform evil acts, and since God is holy, then the o¬nly way for you and me to please him is to repent, and to receive His mercy. This mercy has nothing to do with God’s killing his so-called o¬nly begotten son o¬n the cross in order to save mankind. This theory is both false, and presents a false view of God. When God wants to do something he o¬nly says it and it is. This statement is confirmed in both the Qur’an and the bible. Anything that contradicts it is false and should be shunned. God’s mercy, o¬ne will conclude after deep thinking, is the greatest of all His blessings. While his material blessings are good and necessary for us, they are limited within the parameter of this life. However, His mercy not o¬nly helps us cope with the vicissitudes of this life, but it transcends it to go even in the hereafter. God’s mercy is actually the passport to the hereafter. Without it o¬ne is doomed eternally. With Allah’s mercy, this life is the testing period which o¬ne will pass successfully to be admitted to the real life after this o¬ne. In our prayer, though we may ask God for money, food, health, we should always have a repentant heart and ask deliberately for His mercy. Mercy is Allah’s link to us that will permeate our path throughout eternity. only through Allah’s (swt) mercy can we finally overcome sin, have a desire for eternity, and work o¬n the path of righteousness and ultimately please Him. Mercy is indeed God’s greatest gift to mankind…

Note: (1) by things the lowest of creation, I mean the hierarchy in creation: From Archangels being the first, then Angels, Mankind, Animals, Vegetations, and things such as rocks, the ocean, the skies, etc
