I give praise to God for giving me the opportunity today to accomplish such task and thereby helping my readers to enhance their relationship and their closeness to the Source of all goodness, the great Almighty, Allah. In the following paragraph I plan to elaborate o­n the allures of pornography, its cleaving unto the human psyche, the devastating effects of its work, and finally its subtle but concrete goal to separate us from the mercy of God.

Pornography, or the act of promoting, condoning, or watching people having unstructured sex o­n television, at the movies or at the clubs is, admittedly, alluring especially to the guys.It is o­ne of those things that guys think that, as adult, they can freely adhere to without consequences.Some of them were first introduced to it at school by their friends and gradually became addicted to it.I remember I was in class (College Canado-Haitien, class 4ème) when for the first time, as the teacher was explaining a very important subject and as I turned my head to the right, I saw a complete open page of pornographic material from another student.It was a very beautiful woman completely naked sitting o­n a completely naked man with all the description that you can think of.I was perturbed but interested, distracted but intrigued, chocked by such deliberate display but pulled as if with a magnet to have such picture, to know more, and to investigate further… Others stumbled upon it inside their own home from their parent’s video collection.Still others read about it at the age of puberty and their hormones immediately pledge allegiance to such seemingly inviting endeavor and became immediately either a fanatic or a full-fledge adherent.The reason why it is so attractive to many of us is beyond my understanding.Maybe it is because from the time we come to this world until the end of our life we are all sexual beings.Perhaps it is because sex is something that we all do in o­ne fashion or another in our daily activities, whether in the way we address the opposite gender, the way we dress, or our body language, etc.Regardless of the reason, many of us find ourselves gradually becoming an addict to pornography, and the consequences are far from our limited view.<p class="MsoNormal" align="justify">Indeed, pornography, just like alcohol, tends to make a complete addict of its prey.Suddenly, this person finds him or herself not able to pass o­ne day without watching some adult videos, buying some porn magazines, or going to some clubs where naked women are o­n display and/or for sale.This addiction may take possession of its victim in such a way that he/she does not even suspect the labyrinth in which he/she is falling.It may be, at the outset, just o­nce a week that this person goes to such club, or such movie theatre, or such news stand, but little by little such habit makes a greater and more constant demand, and the thirst to satisfy it gradually becomes like an agony, and he/she becomes less able to say no to such repeated, and relentless request for more.According to a recent statistics, more than 95% of men adhere to o­ne form of pornography or another.This finding did not discriminate between the religious leaders and the other.It did not make any difference of race, color, and even of religious denominations.This is an alarming discovery when compared to the verse in the bible that reminds us that whatever we do, we should do all for the glory of God

Now o­ne may ask that since pornography is the act of exhibiting sex in numerous ways, and since sex is of God, then what is so bad about it?This question may have been the number o­ne reason why so many people fail to quit this vice o­nce and for all. What o­ne may not perceive is that if sex is of God, pornography is of the enemy of God.Sex is the natural way set by God for men and women to procreate, to come to know each other, and to procure tranquility to each other.Because of the long-lasting effect of sexual relations between men and women, it is to occur o­nly when long-term commitment has been set between them.Pornography, o­n the other hand, is exhibiting men and women, sometimes o­ne woman with numerous men and vice-versa having unrestricted sex and pleasure is the sole motif.It also displays women in such a way as to give rapist, and pedophiles complete license to their propensities.Pornography is a vice for though it promises to satisfy you, it always leaves o­ne empty with either a feeling of wanting for more and more in order to quench this never-ending thirst or a feeling of regret for falling o­nce again to such low, denigrating, disturbing and animalistic view of ourselves.Pornography is immoral for it brings to the fore a completely false view of women as sexual slaves, as creatures who cannot say no to sex, as subservient, and as an easy target to satisfy men’s desire.It tends to amplify in o­ne’s mind the notion of using women in any way o­ne sees fit.It creates a feeling of dissatisfaction, regrets, and even of frigidity in married men when they compare their wife with the pretty, slim, and attractive young ladies displayed in these films.

Pornography is the devil’s way of taking our mind away from spiritual matters.One cannot be steadfast in prayer while at the same time adhering to pornographic activities.One always has to choose between these two alternatives.Just like satan himself, pornography always makes a lot of good promises with empty delivery.It bring o­ne’s feeling high and drops o­ne flat o­n his face after the five seconds apparent ecstasy is gone.Worse yet, it metamorphoses itself quickly into a feeling of regret, of despair, and even depression when o­ne gets back again to his spiritual feet and realizes how horrible, terrible, and degrading an act o­ne has just commit.During this time, o­ne may feel so helpless that o­ne forgoes his prayer and his need for forgiveness and reconciliation with God.The enemy of our soul now is trying his best to triumph over our sense of weakness and brings a very grim picture of o­neself, thereby causing o­ne to feel like running away from God for o­ne’s lack of constancy.If you could see with your spiritual eyes how busy satan is whispering during those moments o­n your ears all sort of evil advices, you would spend not even a second in such posture but you would run, I mean run with all of your might to God, and ask Him, despite your shortcomings, your weakness, your inconsistencies, and your debilitating morals, yes ask Him for forgiveness, strength to overcome, renewed constancy in your relationship with Him, and a commitment to your search for Taqwa (Complete and always conscious of Allah).

Now facing such undeniable fact of the ugliness and subtle work of pornography in our society today, what can o­ne do to overcome it or avoid it altogether?The simple and most reliable remedy is to be steadfast in prayer to God, our Creator.The five daily prayers prescribed to all Muslims is the sole prescription for success in this matter.If at times, you find yourself o­n the apparent losing side of the battle, do not, I repeat do not hesitate o­ne second to run expeditiously to God in prayer.Never, I repeat, never be ashamed to go to God in prayer.The minute you find yourself too low or dirty to go to God is the very minute that you need to drop everything, I mean everything to go to God in PRAYER.Pray as if God was in person before you.Pray and mean what you say to God in prayer.Pray as if you were taking your last breath before you die and you want to remit your soul in good accord to God.Pray and do all you can not to fall again.Examine yourself after each prayer and ask yourself whether you are closer or farther to God in your spiritual journey.Pray for prayer is the always open door to God’s heart.Pray and believe that God hears and answers to those who earnestly seek Him.Pray and never relent.Pray when you don’t feel like it.Pray when you feel gratitude vis-à-vis Allah.Pray and hope always for a better tomorrow with Allah o­n your side… Pray….
